How can you be a standout candidate?

Yes, there are some things that are out of your control in the process, however, there are many things you can do to help give yourself the best possible chance of success.

  1. Be responsive
If you receive a call or email or even text back from a recruiter or line manager, respond. Sooner rather than later. By leaving them waiting for hours/days/weeks, you leave them wondering if you’re genuinely committed to looking for a new role,  you show them that you aren’t able to respond in a timely manner (which may be a key criteria for the role you’re going for) or that you’re simply just not interested in the opportunity. A quick response shows them your commitment level and can speed up the process to the next steps in the process.
  2. Be personable
What makes you different from the next person inline to interview is YOU. You and your personality, and what you can bring to the company team and culture. Being personable, making conversation and being engaged in conversation at interview stage is crucial to showing them your personality and work style.
  3. Be attentive
Listen to their questions, give solid examples of your relevant experience, ask questions to demonstrate the research you’ve done and follow up with feedback straight after the interview.

These are just a few quick tips to help you on your job search and give you every chance of success. If you’re in the market for a new role or considering having a look what’s out there, give me a call and we can run through how you can best position yourself and find your dream role!
